I think the undesireable optical illusion results from combining oblique perspective with parallel perspective. Oblique perspective incorporates angular perspective, which is why it is called three-point perspective. Here, it is combined with parallel, instead.
You've put me on a new line of research.

Thanks for the incredible break-down of my work. I hope it helped you, somehow, to see things differently. I call this type of shot the Adam Kubert shot, because he loves doing a 1 point perspective with that 3 point on the top. Sometimes he makes 2 horizon lines, but that's another story.

Hugh Mesibov used to tell me "sometimes the art judges the critic."

Well, if nothing else I put your pics in front of a discerning audience who appreciated them, aesthetically, without the need for vivisecting. Sorry for making such a bloody mess of it, but the composition got my mind racing and, yes, taught me much.

(Two horizons? There's a story that needs telling!)

I take it all back. It's not a confusion of angular and parallel perspective, after all. It's an optical illusion! I laid out the picture making sure to rule in parallel lines and got the same results! Haha. Optical illusion - who knew?

The lines defining the planes of the front side of the buildings must be parallel to the horizon, in one point perspective. But here they angle upward from the vertical center of the page. That means they are not parallel to the horizon. If, perchance, they are intended to recede, as in angular perspective, then they recede away from the horizon, which is, also, a breach of the rules of perspective - i.e. impossible. The problem stems from confusing parallel and angular perspective. (The oblique reference point is fine, however, except that it is inconsistent. The tree and pedestrian are subject to it, too, but stand outside of it.)

The most likely fix would be to correct the front planes of the buildings by ruling them parallel to the picture plane at the nearest corners. To be consistent, the tree and pedestrian should be set in oblique perspective.

Oh! I'm beginning to see it. What a hatchet job! (haha)
You used parallel (one point) persepective to set up the main composition. Then used a second point above for the oblique angles of the buildings (they would otherwise be perpendicular). Then you got into trouble with thee angles of the buildings.
The angles should exit left and right parallel to the picture plane, but since you distorted the picture with an oblique reference point over the center, the parallel lines now angle up as they pass through the frame.
Cheating is part of the game - the key is to do it well (like this)!

Very nice. Oblique perspective (3 pt. - I'm trying my hand at that, now).
Everything looks natural. The detail on the buildings looks like it is unbearable to do, but for someone like you, it is probably the fun part!
